John Osborne (Writer) The New Blur Album

A few years ago I made a show for Radio 4 called The New Blur Album.

It’s about getting older, the friends you make when you’re at school and the excitement of your favourite band making a new album. When Blur announced Wembley reunion shows for the summer of 2023 I decided to see if I could update the show. It turned out that the show feels much more relevant now than when I wrote it.

The New Blur Album is a show about getting older and it really suits coming from me now rather than when I was 33 when I first performed it. When I took it to the Machynlleth Comedy Festival at the end of April having reworked it more than I’ve ever worked on a show before, it felt like one of the most special performances I’ve done.

I’m now taking it out to Norwich Arts Centre, Colchester, Ipswich, Bollington, Wolverhampton and Sale (and hopefully some more places too). The other night I got home from work at the exact time Steve Lamacq announced that he was being joined by Damon, Graham, Alex and Dave who were there to talk about the new Blur album. It’s being released the same week as my show at Norwich Arts Centre. Sometimes things just feel like they fit together perfectly.
